LUMMIS WANTS TO MOVE TAX DAY CLOSER TO ELECTION DAY

Cheyenne, WY- Republican Congressional candidate Cynthia Lummis today said she would sponsor federal legislation to move income tax day closer to election day.

"By moving the date for filing income tax closer to election day," Lummis stated, "voters may be more willing to vote, and to cast their vote against tax-and-spend candidates and for deficit reduction and balanced budgets."

A Gallop Poll released this week shows fifty-two percent of Americans believe their taxes are too high. Further, Lummis said, "Forty percent of Americans pay over ninety-nine percent of the taxes; sixty percent - a the majority of Americans - pay less than one percent. Does Congress think that is fair? I don't."

Lummis asked, "On a day when millions of Americans are writing checks to the IRS, are they paying enough attention to who they will vote for in this year's election?"

A former two-term Wyoming State Treasurer, Lummis is running for Wyoming's only seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Lummis contends that there are a number of key candidates, including Presidential candidates Obama and Clinton, who are fighting to raise taxes during a time of economic uncertainty.
